Stone Type
slate
Tympanum
face with ornamentation, memento mori
Border
A thin two line border follows the circumference of this stone. There is a lightly engraved line just inside of the tympanum's edge that then outlines the left and right of the tablet. Below the tympanum and above the tablet is a bi-radial design of a plant/vine functioning as a separator. The side panels begin at this stone's shoulders and extend along the bottom. The significant space is filled with a many leaved wheat plant growing from a seed found in the center of the bottom panel.
Remark
This tympanum centerpiece is framed by a bas-relief fan shape. The traditional arch is above the winged face with Memento Mori. The winged face is artfully fitted within the fan shape which makes nice use of the wing span. The wings are the tab variety. The face is difficult to detail due to growths. From the head shape we can see a mature representation with a humanistic approach. The hair is combed straight back and it appears the eyes have pupils. There are defined cheeks and a chin.
