slate
Tympanum
face with ornamentation
Border
This stone has a thin two line border around its circumference. There are illustrated side panels (only ones visible). At the top of the one complete side panel, the plant is a strawberry.
Remark
The tympanum has two components. The focus is on the bas relief face in the alcove cut into the stone. One cannot describe this face as having a clear female depiction, and, if anything, the face appears male. His hair is pulled back, the eyes are stark and staring, the nose is bulbous, and the mouth is straight across. His neck and shoulders are also shown. The other component is the mirror-imaged plant life depicted within the dome shaped surround.
