Tympanum
face with ornamentation
Border
The border over the tympanum is comprised of two lines that thicken at their ends and thin out in the middle. At the bottom of the tympanum, that border connects with the outer two line border the surrounds the tablet section. The tablet section adds several elements. Two half circles give this stone shoulders. Inside of the other border, another two line border is etched at depth making the table more bas-relief. Inside of that border, there is another two line border etched into the tablet.
Remark
The tympanum design includes several elements; a spaceship like arch with a scalloped line along it's lower edge and a flame from its apex, plants growing in mirror image outside of that, another border and then the arch and winged face imagery. The face is of a youth, as befitting the deceased, with tousled hair. His face is later period with good details in his eyes, cheeks, mouth, chin and nose all realistically rendered. There is no neck and the head sits right on the wings. While there is a low level of detain in this rendition, the quality of the carving is very clean and professional.
