Tympanum
skull
Border
Unfortunately, prior to and during the installation into its granite frame, this stone was damaged resulting in significant attrition of the outer edging. The border over the tympanum is still evident and was thick in width. Over this stone's shoulders the border thin appreciably and seems to have continued down the sides. There are illustrated side panels to the left and right of the tablet section.
Remark
The skull and wings are middle period as the skull's shape is evolving and looks a lot less like a light bulb. The eye sockets are noticeably different. There is an chin as opposed to the teeth taking up the entire lower skull. The wings take up most of the rest of the tympanum's space. there are two types; the shorter tight packed ones closer to the skull and the longer more flowing ones father out on the wings. The side panels are unique. There is a very large circle at the top of each column. Inside of each is a cross made up of twisted figure eights and a diamond shape at the intersection of the arms. There are remnants of feathers or leaves that were wrapped around this circle. Below it appears more floral designs and another circle with malestrom like images.
