HERE LYES Y_e BODY OF M_R. THOMAS CLARK AGED 98 YEARS DEPARTED THIS LIFE MARCH Y_e 24th 1697

Surveyed On
September 1, 2015
Stone Type
slate
Tympanum
face with ornamentation
Border
Originally, there was a simple, two line, thin width border around the circumference of this stone. The bas-relief tablet has a four line border appearing as a solid frame with edges. There are illustrated panels around three sides of the tablet.
Remark
This stone was damanged either prior to or during its installation into the granite frame. We are still able to make out some of the lost imagery. The typanum holds an image of a winged face. The feathers are more voluminous and aborb all the space to the side of the face. The face itself appears as a more youthful figure than the 98 year old man whose grave the memorial adorns. His face is not happy but the details give the appearance of late middle period rendition.
Physical Status
straight less_than_20_degrees
