memento mori, skull
Border
A cleanly delineated two line, thin width border runs the along the complete circumference of this stone. It also frames the tablet section. Around three sides of the tablet are illustrated panels. The plant imagery is focused at five points; at the top and middle of the two columns and in the middle of the bottom. There is a poppy-like flower at each of those point. Along the length of these plants, nautilus-like swirls.
Remark
The guide lines for each row are pronounced. The tympanum imagery appears almost Central American. The stylized skull and its wings all fit into a strict, very developed pattern. The plants from the side panels are incorporated to fill the outer peripheral areas. Directly over the skull, we find the memento mori.
