Stone Type
slate
Tympanum
face with ornamentation
Border
A thin width two line border runs along the outer edge of the tympanum. When it reaches the stone's shoulders, it over doubles in width, jumps over the shoulders and proceeds down the sides.
Remark
Underneath the outer tympanum border, a banner proclaiming Memento Mori covers 2/3rds of the tympanum's dome. The face and wings fill the remainder of the space. The face is evolutionary as it is a generation removed from the round shape. The chin prominently leads that movement but it is also apparent in the cheeks. The mouth, which is usually so prominent, has become miniature. The eyes have pupils and the eyebrows are independent. The nose is proportional but the hair is still portrayed in a primitive manner. The body and wings are interesting in that the smaller feathers along the body almost look like scales on a fish.
