Stone Type
slate
Tympanum
face with ornamentation
Border
The medium width two line border is found around the stone's circumference. At the shoulders, at thinner two line border goes down the sides forming the external edge to the side panels. There is a single line border tracing the tympanum. There are panels to the left and right of the tablet section.
Remark
The tympanum imagery is a middle period face. Humanism has begun to take hold as exemplified by the greater eye details, chin and more realistic nose. The detailed, more realistic looking lozenge of hair seems odd as it is usually used for females or youths which leads me to believe he was a curly haired guy. The head is mounted on a generic neck and shoulders and the wings are attached to his back. The wings have that scale look with smaller tightly packed feathers on the innermost portion of the wing and then farther out they morph into longer flowing feathers. The stone shoulders have six legged starfish in circles followed by an abstract undulating plant stem growing up from the bottom of the stone.
