HERE LYES THE BODY
OF MARY BARTLETT DAU_r.
TO M_r. JOHN AND M_rs.
SARAH BARTLETT, WHO
DIED AUG._t 16th 1748.
IN Y_e 18th YEAR OF HER AGE
- Surveyed On
- September 1, 2015
- Stone Type
- slate
- Tympanum
- skull
- Border
- As we can note, from its appearance, this stone was damaged either prior to or during it's installation into the granite frame. It would be my opinion from the breaks that it was during.
Regardless, we can see a two line, thin width border around the circumference of this stone. There are also illustrated panels to the left and right of the tablet section.
- Remark
- The small tympanum is filled with a winged skull image. Proportionally, the skull fills the height of the tympanum's space. The wings will the spaces to the side of the skull.
This particular rendition of a skull is middle period due to the round eye sockets, lightbulb overall shape, triangular nasal cavity and teeth overwhelming the entire lower jaw.
The wings are single quill, multi-segment types.
- Physical Status
- straight cracked
- Intelligibility
- readable, broken images or writing
