Stone Type
slate
Tympanum
face with ornamentation, memento mori
Border
There is a two line, thin width border around the circumference of this stone. Both the tympanum and tablet sections are also bordered. All are presented in bas-relief and set off within the area around them. The tympanum section fully occupies the upper stone. The tablet is presented as an embedded plaque with a slight depression around it's circumference.
Remark
The tympanum has three design elements. The arch remains in its traditional place at the top covering all. This one is emblazoned with Memento Mori. The winged face is an early period rendition with minimal details and lack of emotional content. The cheeks and chin and eyes are there but lack the clarity of subsequent renditions. The last element is the plant which forms balanced imagery to focus the viewer to the more pertinent sections.
