Stone Type
slate
Tympanum
face with ornamentation, memento mori
Border
The tympanum outer border looks like the tab-like wings seen on earlier gravestones. There are two, two leafed plants facing down at the tympanum's apex. There is also a bulb/seed in the center. There is a thin two line border that runs from the stone's shoulder down both sides. The tablet section is bordered with a gabled three line, two border framing. The outer border is thin but the next border is negative space and considerably wider.
Remark
First one must notice the excellent condition of this piece of slate. Other stones are in much worse condition, but this one almost shines! The Memento Mori sign over the winged figure couldn't be more conspicuous. The winged face is humanistically engraved in bas relief with stylistic, yet real features portrayed. The lower wings are the more easily depicted tab type but the whole plumage is holistically presented. Below the winged figure there are similar tall stylistic plants engraved in bas relief. In the middle of the outer frame of the table section, is a circle with a hour glass inside it. This relates to the quote "My glass is run" Inside the panels that run from the stone's shoulder to the bottom there are engraved a prolific plant with many leaves.
