Stone Type
slate
Tympanum
skull
Border
Despite damage either prior to or during its installation in the granite frame, this stone is in reasonable shape. There was originally a two line, thin width border around the circumference but the damage still leaves half of it visible. There are illustrated panels around three sides of the tablet.
Remark
The deceased high position in the community is reflected in this stone's designs. Having a double wide stone with two skull tympanums is the first indication. Clearly honoring his father on the son's stone is the second. The two tympanums contain winged skulls of similar designs. They are oriented on different axises but exhibit the same design factors (triangular nasal cavities, round/oval eye sockets, single quill, multi-segment feathers, light bulb shape skull). There is a half a flower between the two tympanums. The three panels around the tablet follow a common design language with a circle at the top of each column and another one in the center of the bottom panel. The maelstrom whirlpool design is used in all three. Flowing from each circle are cascading imagery that here appears more aquatic than floral. On the sides, the direction is top to bottom. In the bottom panel, it's bi-radially emanating from the center.
