Stone Type
slate
Tympanum
face with ornamentation
Border
The two line thick width border over the top of the tympanum reduces to under half its width over the stone's shoulders and down the sides. An illustrated side panel is found to the left and right of the tablet section. Each panel is topped by a Canterbury cross in a circle. Down the length of each panel are cascading abstract designs of rounded undulating shapes. At three similar points within each column are shapes that look like a multilevel DQ ice cream.
Remark
This tympanum has a beautifully etched early period rendition. The round head shape supports this contention, while the lozenge shaped hair keeps that impression. The smile is unusual for this period. The wings are also very lovingly detailed with two types of feathers. The ones on the wing's lead edge and closest to the body are smaller and appear almost scale like. The trailing edge of the wings feathers are longer and more flowing.
