ERECTED In Memory of Cap_t. SAMUEL THOMSON who departed this life Jan. 3_d 1787, in the 52_d Year of his Age.

Draw near my friends & take a thought, How soon the fave must be your lot; Make sure of Christ while life remains, And death will be eternal gain.

Border
A simple two line, thin width border runs along the circumference of this stone. The tablet section is depicted as a bas relief gabled tablet with a two line, thin width, angled cut.
Remark
The tympanum has three design elements. The arch found just inside of the upper border is one. The second is the face and wings. All are etched simply with minimal details but clearly from the later period wit hall its conventions (pull-back hair, eyebrow/nose simplified eyes, wings). The final element are the mirror image plants growing from the stone's shoulders to under the figure.
